ある日、維克多・蔡は新北京の南部「東城区」から「豊台区」へと向かうこととなった。東城区は新しい都市開発の中心地で、近未来的なデザインの高層ビルが立ち並び、商業施設やエンターテインメントの中心地として賑わっている。だが、豊台区は一転して過去の面影が色濃く残る地区だ。かつての「胡同」や「四合院」風の住宅が軒を連ね、街角に並ぶ食堂からはジューシーな北京ダックの香りが漂う。ここは北京の「古い北京」が息づく場所で、温かい笑顔と手作りの小物を売る露店が並び、人々はゆっくりと歩いている。

だが、この一見平和な街の背後で、異変が起きていた。豊台区の古い住宅街の一角、ガラスの破片と廃墟となった市場の中に、一人の使徒が現れる。見た目はただの中年の男だが、その瞳には冷徹な空虚さが広がり、手には何かを握りしめている。その動きは機械的で、無差別に街の人々に襲いかかる。

The transformation is undeniable, yet something unsettling stirs beneath the surface. In the darker corners of this bustling metropolis, whispers circulate of a phenomenon called the “Apostles.” These are not just the walking dead but individuals whose bodies and minds have been overtaken by parasitic entities, turning them into mindless, aggressive creatures lurking in the streets. As the sun sets over the Forbidden City and the illuminated holograms cast bright neon lights over Tiananmen Square, a sense of unease fills the air. People go about their business, but with a growing sense of paranoia, always keeping an eye on the shadows.

Chapter One: The Apostle’s Presence

Viktor Cai, a skilled agent assigned to uncover the truth behind the Apostles, finds himself walking through the southern district of Beijing, known as Dongcheng. This area, once the heart of the ancient city, is now home to the new epicenter of commerce. Tall, gleaming towers house the elite of New Beijing, while below, the streets are filled with traditional tea houses and boutique shops.
